Important Steps When Moving To Lee's Summit

Is it official?! Are you moving to Lee's Summit? Here is a step-by-step guide to officially change your address, update records, and ensure you're correctly registered in the city and state. This guide includes sources, contact information, and action items for you to take—remember that many of these items are required within 30 days of moving!

Update Your Address with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS)

The first step in changing your address is to notify the USPS of the switch. They will ensure your mail is forwarded from your old address to your new one in Lee's Summit.

How to update address:

• Online: You can change your address online at the USPS website.
  • Cost: The online service has a $1.10 identity verification fee.
• Mail: You can also visit your local post office and request a PS Form 3575 (Change of Address form) or print it from the USPS website.

Update Your Missouri Driver’s License

You can change your address online at the Department Of Revenue website, by mail, or in person at a local DMV office.

Update Your Vehicle Registration

After changing your driver’s license address, new residents must also update your vehicle registration with the Missouri Department of Revenue. You have 30 days from becoming a Missouri resident to title your vehicle. I have written a helpful article with additional information on updating vehicle registration here.

You can update your address for vehicle registration either online at the Missouri Department of Revenue website, by mail, or in person at a DMV office.

Update Voter Registration

If you're moving to Lee's Summit from another Missouri location, simply update your voter registration to reflect your new address. If you're moving from out of state, register as a new voter.

How to update voter registration:

• Online: Fill out the Online Voter Registration Form at the Missouri Secretary of State website
• Mail: Print out and mail the Printable Voter Registration Form to:

Update (or Set Up) Internet Services

The Lee’s Summit area gives you internet provider options such as AT&T, Google Fiber, and most recently, T-Mobile.

Inform Financial Institutions and Insurance Providers

Make sure your recent change of address doesn’t lead to missing important documents! Below is a list of institutions you should notify of your recent move, with most offering online address update services on their websites or mobile apps.

School Registration

School-age children need to be registered with the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District or your private school of choice. You can figure out what school your child will attend by using the website district map.

Update Address for Subscriptions and Services

Don’t miss out on important products and promotions! Make sure any monthly subscriptions or regular services such as these are aware of your address change:

• Online Retailers
• Delivery Services (including DoorDash, Instacart, Amazon Prime, and others)

Register Your Pet

The city requires all dogs and cats to have a current City of Lee's Summit Pet License.

You can license these important members of the family at Animal Control, City Hall, participating veterinarian offices, or online. A valid rabies certificate and proof of pet sterilization (if applicable) are required to obtain a LS pet license. A lifetime license can be purchased if your pet is microchipped, but these lifetime licenses are only available at the Animal Shelter and City Hall.

Update Your Pet’s Microchip Info

Remember to update your pet’s microchip contact info with your new address to ensure they can be reunited with you if lost. Your furry friend will be grateful!

How to update your pet's microchip:

Contact the microchip registry company your pet is registered with, providing them with your pet's microchip number and any necessary, updated contact information, such as your address and phone number; you can usually do this online through their website or by calling them directly.
